Talk about good Chicken & Ribs. Those two girls, Joan & Marge came out of summer retirement to cover for Barb who had go away suddenly up north. Nothing to worry about though. Anyway, the meal was good, the turnout so large, that the "G" Strings pulled out for the evening so as to accommodate everyone. They are such great people. One of the guitarists Ian Kelso was under the weather so it worked out well for everyone. Let's wish Ian a speedy recovery.

The next meal is pork tenderloin which will be served on June 14th at 6:30 pm sharp. This will be under the strict supervision of team Brit headed by Lillian Connor, Hillary Sheldon and the rest of their mates. Reserve early. This is usually sold out 450-458-4882.

The curling section is making great strives forward to ensure that this club gets better and better. It's never too early to think of curling. Pass the message on to your friends about this great winter sport. We cater to any age.

A lot of you will remember Con as the drummer on Friday nights doing his part for the "G" String band. That was just a small part of the many talents the man shared in his life. Memories of him will remain in our hearts forever. Deepest sympathies go out to his loving wife Lil and to his children, grand children and great grand children. He will be truly missed by all that knew and respected him.

The Robbie Burns night couldn't have been better except for a few more seats to be filled. All those who came out for the annual Scottish event had a marvelous time. The dinner was great and the music was excellent. There wasn't a soul who didn't get up and dance. A special thanks to Sarah Kemerer who brought her fiddle along, thank goodness, as the Piper forgot to show up, so Sarah led in the haggis fiddling to a traditional Scottish tune. She also added more flair with singing a few songs for the crowd. The staff and volunteers put on a pretty good show. Can't wait for next year.

Rollie had seven tables show up for the Crib night. First place was won by Louise Archambault. second place was won by Jenn Baumeister and the third place finish was Janot Fournier.

Glenn Ruiter, culring club presidentWELCOME TO THE 2012-2013 CURLING SEASON

With the arrival of October 1 and its chilly nights,  the start of a  new curling season is within sight. The ice is now being  prepared for the 49th year of curling at the Legion and when curlers step onto the ice for the first time they will see a remarkable difference.

Thanks to the considerable efforts of those who directed the project and the many members who contributed  their time and skills, we have a ‘new’ club. The walls have been covered with insulation and cladding,  new lighting has been installed, heaters have been put in place, painted surfaces have been redone, and, underneath our feet the refrigeration pipes have been replaced.  The improvement is remarkable.

We will begin our season on Thursday October 11. That evening, known as the Social Open House has become our annual  opening of the curling season. This year there will be a slightly different format and the evening will unfold in this manner:

18h45 Annual General Meeting

The meeting is new this year and has been suggested as an opportunity for the members to be informed of the operations of the club. Agenda items will include club operating structure, finances, facilities and programs, both internal and external.  The executive for the 2102-2103 will also be approved.  The positions and the incumbents are:

Chairman - Glenn Ruiter
Finance - Barb Robinson
Technical - Serges Bérubé
Secretary - Barb Mason
Ladder Convenor - Barb Robinson
House League Convenor - Jon Bazar
Friday night and Bonspiels  Convenor - Jay de la Durantaye
Hardy Rocks - Gerry Foliot
Curl Quebec - Bill Driver
Website - Zbig Jasiukajc
Membership - Zbig Jasiukajc
Lakeshore Bonspiel - Nancy Burgess

October 1, 2012

After hours of meetings and planning, the Fashion Show went off without a hitch. To the three ladies who took on this event from start to finish, Jackie Batcup, Audrey Chisholm and Joan Hughes, they have our sincere thanks. There is always a strong team of volunteers for an event of this type without whom this could not happen. Thank you everyone. This fundraiser was a great success. To all the guests who contributed to the event this Legion is deeply grateful. It was a job well done.

August 27, 2012

It was pointed out that there was a mix up on the date of the upcoming fashion show. It is in fact being held on Wednesday September 26th at 6 pm in the Stephen Shaar Community Centre. The models are all selected and waiting to choose their costumes. It's so exciting to be able to have Jackie Batcup & Audrey Chisholm at the helm once again. When saying it will be a classy night, is there anything else to say when these ladies are making the arrangements. Tickets for this elegant event are now on sale for $35.00 each which includes the show and dinner and can be reserved by contacting Joan Hughes at the Legion at 450-458-4882. Don't wait till the last minute to get your tickets. Now is the time.

Serges and his crew of volunteers are diligently working away at installing the cooling pipes in the curling rink. They are 90% done. All that's left is the big test to make sure that there are no leaks. Once this is done, the last job left is to bring in the sand, lay it down and another season will be upon us with an almost brand new Curling Club. The newly installed lights will for certain brighten up the shed along with the recently installed siding. It is like a brand new building out there thanks to the efforts of so many members who gave their time so freely. Tell your friends, spread the word. New members are always welcome.

Lynn Sandquist and her team put on a lovely dinner last Friday night. She was gracious enough to host two dinners this summer. Thanks Lynn. The "G Strings" were great too. Next up is a Steak BBQ hosted by the Hardy Rocks on Friday Sept. 7th. This usually sells out quickly so reserve early.

August 12, 2012

Welcome back everyone. Let's get caught up now. Recent dinner gone by was Brit night hosted by the Sheldon's, Connor's and friends which was very successful. Just last Friday there was a Fish & Chip night presented by the Atwood's, Jesty's, Bezansom's. Again it was a hit. Thanks to all who gave their time for making these meals special and thanks to the volunteers who helped at the Street Fair as well.

Coming soon on August 24th is another dinner, this time being hosted by Lynn Sandquist. Chicken a la king will be served. Hopefully Phil Gale can get his band together to share in the evening.

The Curling rink modifications are progressing well with new heaters being installed. New lighting is planned too. Serges is still looking for help to lay the pipes and other jobs that need to be done to complete the work. Serges can be contacted at 450-458-5032 if anyone has some spare time and would like to help.

Here is a heads up, the Legion is planning its by-annual Fashion Show to be held on Wednesday September 25. This is a fund raising event and is as professional as one can get. The ladies organizing the show are very experienced and bring a lot of savvy to the show. For more information, please contact Joan at the Legion 450-458-4882.

July 9, 2012

This is just a reminder everyone, that there is a dinner on Friday and the menu is Chicken & Ribs.

Thanks to all the volunteers who helped on Canada Day. The festivies took place at Thompson Park on July 1st. Many thanks to Le Castor Brewing Company from Rigaud for their kind donation of beer. This is a young company trying to make a name for it's self in a tight market. According to the customers who sampled the beer, they think this will be a winning company. Once again thanks to Dan & Murray.

Birthdays this month include, Jack Crombie is celebrating his 70th, John Dalgarno hit retirement age 65 and Ian Jones turns the Big 60. Happy Birthday guys.
