It was a pretty quiet week with a lot of people being on winter vacation. How lucky they do not to have to battle the cold. Things are looking up with the St. Valentines roast beef dinner being planned for this Friday night at 6:30 sharp. Only $14.00 for this three course meal.
Cribbage is coming up fast again this month & will be played on the 21st at 7:30. Newcomers are welcome to play.
The St. Patrick's dinner is only a few weeks away so book early to avoid disappointed. Tickets sell quickly for this event being held on Friday March 7th in the Stephen Shaar Community Centre. The price for dinner & entertainment is $25.00. The Bernadette School of Irish dancers will be providing the talented young dancers who will get your toes tapping. Tim Walsh & Becky Fletcher will provide the music throughout the evening & Pat O'Grady will return as the Master of Ceremonies. This is always a fun event & is open to the public. Another long time member and former Hardy Rock curler has passed away peacefully at the West Island Palliative Care facility on the Lakeshore. Alex Smith will be dearly missed by his friends at the Legion. Sincere condolences to Alex's family.

Let's start off with last weeks Pub Quiz. The questions were great & the competition was fierce. Absent Minds eked out the win. Nova will receive $100.00 collected that evening. The next quiz night will be held February 26.
Rollie asked to insert the following message,"Rollie & Rick's hockey tickets were won by Aline Beauchamps. Thank you to all participants in this event. A big thank you to Jacques Labrosse for donating the tickets. All profits will be donated to the Legion."
Last Friday's dinner was delicious & prepared by the team of Joan & Marge. A recognition of time spent & the dedication of this volunteer for the years of helping with all the dinners & special events was made to Marge Crombie. The diners were thrilled with this presentation as was Marge of course. Thanks to the Legion Executive for arranging the presentation.
The next Friday dinner is scheduled for Friday February 14 at 6:30 sharp. A roast beef dinner will be served.
It is early but the St. Patrick's dinner is also early this year. All the festivities start on Friday March 7 with the announcement of the Irishman of the year. The parade Queen & her court will be in attendance too. The Irish dancers will perform & Tim Walsh will be providing the music for the night. All of this and a meal consisting of roast pork, &/or corned beef & cabbage for $25.00. RSVP for tickets now at 450-458-4882. This event is held in the Community Centre.
Just to let everyone know, Peter Robinson is making a fine recovery after his surgery but will be lying low for next few months. This is great news.
Sad news to report though. The passing of long time Legion member, friend & longtime curler with the Hardy Rocks, Bud Cluett passed away last Friday after a lengthy illness. We extend our deepest sympathies to Bud's family. Bud will certainly be missed by his many friends here at the Legion.

Last Friday's crib went very well. Rollie said there were four people who played here for the first time. There were 10 full tables. This monthly event is attracting a lot of attendance. Rod Hodgson had the highest points, followed by Millie Beliveau & Manon Ouelette. Well done & a big thanks to the ladies who prepared the snacks.
The Robbie Burns was another great success. Thanks to all the people who throw it all together, John, Linda, Mike Lillian, Eric & Sheena Ellis who prepared the Haggis. These events take a lot of planning to be successful. The kitchen crew headed by Joan & Marge put on a fantastic dinner. Kudos to all. And thanks for attending these special events.
St. Patrick's is the next big event being held this year on Friday March 7 th at which time you will meet this years Queen & her court as well as the announcement of this years Irishman of the year. Reservations are ready to be taken now by calling 450-458-4882.
There is a roast pork dinner this Friday night at 6:30 sharp. Tickets are $14.00 for a full course meal & includes music by the "G" Strings.

Here we are back into the deep freeze but it will all warm up on Saturday night here at the Legion with the return of Robbie Burns night. It is a night of excellent entertainment, a fabulous roast beef dinner will be served and of course there will be haggis. Welcome back to another year of Legion news. Hopefully everyone had a great holiday.
Just before closing for Christmas, the wine basket winners were announced. They were, Ken Baxter who actually won twice, Lynda Putnam, Ian Peck, M. Archambault, & Sharlene Dearling. The same night the Xmas cribbage winners were J. Bissonette, S. Dearling & Donavan Case. Nine tables turned out despite the weather & 6 new players also played for the first time at the Legion.
The New Years Eve party had about 60 people in attendance & all enjoyed themselves tremendously. Many thanks again to Ted & Marie for donating their time and getting the dance floor filled and to Linda Eames & John Dalgarno for organizing the evening & putting up the decorations & taking them down. Bravo.
The first Friday night dinner has come & gone. The next one on the slate is on Friday, January 17 at which time salmon will be served. Remember there is an alternate but it must be specified upon reserving. RSVP 450-458-4882.
Put this date on your calendar, Saturday, January 25 is Robbie Burns Night to be held in the Community Centre with all the rituals. The cost for the evening is $25.00 inclusive. Dancing to Greg Inniss who is back by popular demand. Please join us.

Just a few quick reminders for you. There is the Christmas crib night taking place this Friday at 7:30 pm. A donation has been made to the Crib club which is a pair of Montreal Canadiens hockey tickets for a game on Feb. 6th. Rollie & Rick will be selling raffle tickets 1 for $5.00 to determine the winner. All proceeds will be donated to the Legion.
The New Years Eve party plans have started. The price is $5.00 a couple for members & $10.00 per person for non members. There will be live music, hats & noise makers will be provided. The annual Manoir residents Christmas dinner took place last Saturday night. Everyone went home full and well entertained by the Tea Pot Tappers who are always a crowd pleaser. Thanks to the Executive for preparing and serving the meal.
The Defi Masters curling will be hosted by the Legion this Friday commencing at noon. Four draws are planned .Also the last Friday night dinner for this year is planned. Dinner starts at 6:30 sharp.
Next Thursday is the Hardy Rock Christmas lunch ( Dec 19).The daytime Ham & Turkey winners will be announced then.
The Xmas Cribbage is coming up quickly too. Friday Dec. 20th at 8 pm is the time and Rollie is looking forward to seeing you. The Xmas Basket winners will be chosen after the Crib. Buy your tickets now at the bar.
Take note that there is a New Years Eve party being planned. All you have to do is reserve by calling 450=458-4882. Non members are invited to join in the festivities at a cost of $10.00 per person and everyone should bring along your favourite nibbly,ready to be served through out the evening. Let's start off by thanking the Dalgarno's, the Elliot's & the Ellis' for last weeks fish & chip dinner as well as Marge & Joan. The weather was frightful for cooking out doors but the meal was delivered hot. Good job everyone. The only dinner in December will be held on December 13th. It will be a buffet style dinner.
Eight tables turned out for the monthly Pub quiz and just for the record there will be no quiz held in December.
This Friday is the annual Winnie's Xmas Office Party. This is a Legion Xmas tradition in memory of the late and great Winnie Normandeau. All you have to do is show up around 9 pm with a wrapped gift valued under $10.00 and enjoy the party. See who takes home the ugly hat this year.
New Years Eve is right around the corner & yes, back by popular demand is a party starting around 9 pm. Special guest musicians are Ted Poulin & Marie who would love to see you there. Bring your favourite nibble as that will be the food for the night, You know, it could be cheese & crackers, small sandwich platter, shrimp, cookies, nothing is off limits as long as it is ready to go. A new tempo has been installed at the rear entrance, however it is not a smoking area. There is a bucket in place there for butts for people that insist on smoking in the tempo but somehow butts are being left on the ground. Please use the bucket in place for butts. Keep our facility clean.

Here is a quick summary on last Friday’s crib night. Eight tables played for bottles of wine. Andy Cameron took first place with 136 points. There was a tie for second place between Joanne Ross & Rick Cameron. Everyone is expected back on Friday, December 20th for the Xmas cribbage.
Pub Quiz, which is a trivia night, is scheduled on Wednesday this week (27th) at 8 pm sharp. The hosts Are team Absent Minded.
This Friday's Fish & Chip night is sold out.

Congratulations to the women curlers who played in the Grande Dame this past weekend and brought home the hardware. They were the overall winner. There were 48 teams entered with three of ours included. The men took second place in the Grand Match which hosted 122 teams from 17 Clubs. Well done everyone. Many thanks to Sandy Eades who took care of the hospitality for the day.

Lieutenant Kyle Tetro was the guest speaker at the Remembrance Day dinner & he exceeded all expectations. The dinner was excellent and the Black Watch Cadets always put on a great show. The weather held out during the parade on Sunday. The crowd turned out despite the forecast. There were prayers, the singing of O Canada, the trumpet player (Bill Riley) brought tears to peoples eyes. It's always very emotional for everyone in attendance from the Cubs & Brownies right up to the Veterans themselves.
A smaller ceremony was held at the Cenotaph on Monday. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the whole event, from the poppy campaign, to the organization of the dinner & guest speaker, to the parade & the reception that followed. Many hands worked their magic again.

Next Wednesday Nov. 20 there is a General meeting at 7 pm. Please attend. Also take note that the next Cribbage night will be held on Friday Nov. 22 at 8 pm.

This is the big week for everyone here at the Legion.
It is the last week for the Poppy Drive which is doing quite well at this time.
The Remembrance Day dinner is on this Saturday Night starting at 6:30 pm with the Ice Pageant presenting the Black Watch Cadets. A Roast Lamb dinner will follow. There will be a special guest speaker at dessert time. Tickets can be obtained by contacting Joan at 450-458-4882. The price for the entire evening is $22.00. This event is open to the Public. Please join us.
The Remembrance Day parade is this Sunday. The parade starts at IGA at 12:45 pm and will make its way down Main Road arriving at the Legion at 1pm where all of the dedications will be made. Also on Monday Nov. 11 at 11 am there will be a small ceremony at the cenotaph to remember those who passed on during the wars.
The next regular Friday night dinner will be held on November 15. Chicken a la King will be served. RSVP now.

It was a very good start to the cribbage season. Nine full tables turned out. Thanks to Rollie, Ricky & Sheila for putting it all together. Next month it will be held on Friday November 22 (50th anniversary of J.F.K's assassination).

Curling is on the roll once again. The Opening mixed was held last week with Jim Putnam, Zbig, Sharlene & Josée ( a brand new curler) taking home the prize. The "B" side was won by team de la Durantaye. It is not too late for people still looking for a great club to register for day or night curling or both.
A fundraising endeavor is starting to take off. Three ads have already been sold to advertise local businesses at a cost of $200.00 each. They should be in place sometime this week. If anyone wishes to advertise a business please contact Barb Robinson at 450-458-5032.

The two Birthday girls, Dorothy Blaise & Maxine Bredt were thrilled with the party thrown on their behalf last Friday. Who would've known that these ladies were in their mid nineties. Boy do they ever look great.
Thanks to the Manoir & Michael Maloney for providing the birthday cakes and to Marge for providing all the table decorations. A lovely time was had by all.

Don't forget the Open House on the 10th at 7 pm. All old & new curlers are invited to come out & sign up for all of the upcoming events. The ice looks fantastic. Serges, Roger, Paul and all of the volunteers have done a super job.
Coming up soon is the first Cribbage night. It starts up at 7:30 on Friday Oct. 25. Volunteers are needed to make sandwiches. Add your name to the sign up sheet provided by Rollie.
This is a reminder that 2014 membership cards are in and if you pay before November 30th you will be an early bird member. Try to encourage a friend to join. It's only $50.00 per year. So where were all of you Pub Quiz people? Must have slipped your mind this early in the season. Only 2 1/2 tables showed up to play but they still managed to raise $81.00 for a local charity. The next Pub Quiz is scheduled for October 30. Take note of that date now and see you next time.
Last Friday's dinner raised $308.00 for the Lac Megantic Legion that burnt during the disaster. Thank you to everyone who made a donation. The Town of Hudson Bonspiel starts off the curling season on October 15th. The cost is $15.00 per person. Your team must be a maximum of 9 points. That means four points for a skip, three points for a third, two points for a second, one point for a lead and zero points if you bring in a brand new curler. That is the object of this bonspiel, to bring in new curlers. Invite your friends. Anyone who lives in or close to Hudson is welcome to participate. Call Barb at 450-458-5032 for further information or drop by the Legion to sign up.
Of course with the new season on its way, we are looking for new members. A full membership which means you can curl anytime, in the daytime & night time leagues. The cost is $390.00 in total which includes the $50.00 Legion membership, your curling dues, your closing banquet. There is no better deal around. Daytime only curling is $250.00. Half year memberships are also available. There is also a special for new members at $310.00, Friday nights only at $290.00 and Friday night couples at $530.00. Students over 18 are welcome at a cost of $200.00 per season. Any inquiries you may have can be answered at the Legion. Anyone interested in becoming a member should attend the Open House on Thursday October 10 at 7 pm.

It was nice to see such a large turn out for the General meeting. Eighteen new members were initiated. The Executive were all sworn with the addition of a new Director, Mr. Rod Hodgson who is quite excited about his new role at the Legion.

With curling just around the corner, here is something for all curlers to think about. The Town of Hudson Bonspiel which is usually held at the end of the season is now at the beginning of the season. The intention of this bonspiel is to introduce new people to the sport of curling. Talk to your friends and get some teams together. You don't have to belong to a curling club to play. The cost $60.00 per team with a three game guarantee. Sign up today at the Legion.
The Hardy Rock opening meeting takes place on Thursday September 26 th at 1 pm. Anyone wishing to join this daytime curling league is welcome to attend.

Also coming up on Friday September 27th is the fundraiser for Lac- Megantic. It is a dinner & dance commencing at 6 pm in the Community Centre featuring a Harvest turkey dinner with all the trimmings. The price is $25.00 which includes a full course dinner, music provided by Double Image, all taxes and twenty five percent of the ticket value will be sent to the Lac-Megantic special fund. And some sad news, we have lost a great volunteer, a great member, a great lady. Eleanor Lock passed away peacefully last week. She will be missed by all.

Sorry about any confusion over the dates for the dinners. While the paper was on vacation the "Brits" put on a fabulous English dinner. Many thanks to Hilary Sheldon & her crew for their time & effort. The Jim-Bob steak BBQ went on without a hitch. Thanks also to all of the volunteers who helped out. Always remember that everyone is a volunteer and should be treated as so by the diners, that is with appropriate courtesy. Remember no one is paid. Or there could be a volunteer shortage in the future. These people offer their time free of charge.
On Friday August 30th there is a Fish & Chip night hosted by the Dalgarno's & the Elliott's. It is really filling up quickly. Call 450-458-4882 to reserve.
Plans are in the works for a Fall Fling to be held on Friday September 27th. The band has been hired so get out the dancing shoes. Further information will follow.
There is a membership campaign ongoing to recruit new members. Call a friend, it's only $50.00 a year to join. Most of the $50.00 goes back to Ottawa to fund the Veterans hospital & all of their needs. The Legion Needs You.

With the Hudson Gazette going off for a well deserved vacation, it will be important that you take note of the following dates.
First of all there is a steak BBQ this Friday July 26, the next one is on August 9th at which time the "Brits" will be hosting a traditional British evening. After that on August 16 there will be another steak BBQ hosted by Jim Markham & Bob Hart. And at the end of the month on August 30th it is Fish N' Chip night. So write these dates down as there will be no further communication until August 21. All of these dinners start at 6:30 sharp. Call the Legion at 450-458-4882. These meals are open to the public with hope of picking up a few new members along the way. It's only $50.00 a year to belong to this friendly, warm club.
The Street Fair will be here before you know it and volunteers are needed to help out for a few hours on Sat. August 3rd.
Also Serges is looking for volunteers with no fear. Someone whose is willing to climb up a forty foot ladder. He says he is too old, who can believe that, so if you are young at heart give him a call. It would be greatly appreciated.

A healthy number of patrons turned out for the most recent dinner hosted by Barbie & her crew for which they deserve a great big applause.
Coming real soon is the favourite Steak BBQ which will be prepared by your hard working Executive. Come out and show them your support. Tickets are only $14.00 for a full course meal.
Jim Markham is working hard getting players for the Horseshoe competition which starts at 6 pm on Thursday nights. Right now Jim and his partner Bruce Munro are in the lead and are awaiting more challenges. So just show up and you will be guaranteed a game.
For all of you curlers the dehumidifiers have been ordered and should be delivered in the next week. Serges has the plans all in order and has been active in preparation for the installation.
Gerry Foliot who oversees the Farmers Market is happy with the progress so far this summer. Last week he and his wife Sylvia were instrumental in the serving of strawberries and cream. Thanks to the volunteers who helped out.

The air conditioning is on, it's nice and cool in here. If you haven't been around for a while it sure would nice to see you. We are open everyday from 4 pm and opening is at 11 am on Sunday.

The last BBQ was quite a success. Thank you Marge & Joan.
Next up is salmon on the BBQ on Friday July 12th hosted by Barbie and her team. Now is the time to make reservations by calling 450-458-4882. After that there will Steak on July 26 which will be put on by the Legion Executive and on August 9 the "Brits" are back as your hosts. Everyone is busy with summer schedules right now so pencil in those dates now.
Canada Day at Thompson Park was a hit once again. Many thanks to all the volunteers who turned out to make this day another success. We do have the greatest members.
Speaking of which, there is a membership drive on now. It is titled One by One. That's how you grow the Legion ranks. Share your pride in the Legion by signing up one new member and you will be doing your part to ensure the future of your Legion. One by One we all make a difference for Remembrance, for our community, and for our Veterans. Because you care. Because you can! Membership applications are available at the entrance or at the bar. And it's only $50.00 a year.
