We have our first winners in the 2011-2012 season. In the Opening Bonspiel “A’ final Jim Putnam’s team and Tony Marquis’ team exchanged the lead back and forth. Tony’s rink was leading 3-0 after two ends, Jim tied it at 3-3 in the 3rd and then went ahead 7-3 after 5 ends. Tony’s rink tied it up at 7-7 after 7 ends and it came down to Tony’s last rock in the 8-th end before the winner was decided. With his last yellow rock Tony tried an angle raise but his shot was just a hair wide and Jim didn’t have to throw his hammer rock.

The Ham and Turkey Bonspiel. Duration: Dec. 5 - 9, 2011.
The team that won the “A” final in the Ham and Turkey Bonspiel: Glenn Ruiter, Barbara Mason, Bob Hart and David Singh.
The team that won the “B” final in the Ham and Turkey Bonspiel: Jody Hall, Lance Hodgson, Steve Cromar and Jim Putnam.
Here is an example of the kind of shot-making that helped Bob Hart and his team win the Ham and Turkey “A” final.
In the 6th end and the score tied 2-2, Bob’s team already had four blue rocks counting. His opponent, Wayne Morin, on his last rock made a great angle raise of a yellow stone that was two feet outside the rings to be shot stone behind three guards. However, with his hammer shot, Bob made a perfect angle raised takeout to score three. In the 7th end, Wayne made a great double takeout through a narrow port and scored two points to make it 5-4. Then, in the 8th end, his team appeared ready to steal one point to force an extra end but Bob made a perfect hit-and-stick with his hammer shot and won the game.
Two games guaranteed bonspiel:
- eight ends to be played. In case of a tie, a complete extra end is to be played
